Fall fun, Thanksgiving by the Sea, Outer Banks off season- these magic words can all be yours.   The Outer Banks fall season is filled with fun events to keep you and your family active and entertained.  Races, tours, fairs, and more decorate the fall calendar so you can enjoy local things to do along with your empty beaches. Switch it up this year and take a mini vacation or bring the family for Thanksgiving, with these Top 10 Fall & Thanksgiving Events you’re guaranteed to make new Outer Banks memories this November.

  1. 1.The Outer Banks Marathon
    Hosted on November 11-13, the largest race on the Outer Banks can be found here in Kill Devil Hills!  With a marathon, half marathon, 8K, 5K, and fun run, there’s something everyone can be a part of.
  2.  2.Brewery Tour
    Every Wednesday in November from 4-5pm you can tour the Outer Banks Brewing Station with Eric, the co-owner, as he describes the ins and outs of the brewing process. The tour is free, but you need to sign in before spots fill up. SIgn in starts at 2pm. P.S. Did you know that the Brewing Station is the first wind powered brewery in the United States?!   3. 3.Town of Duck Rotating Art Show
    Hosted by the Town of Duck, this free event showcases various local artists in the first floor of the Town Hall.  The current artwork on display is by the The Outer Banks Fiber Guild,  and their exhibit is a culmination of several years of work displaying the relationship between texture, color, and design using fiber.
  4. 4.Off Season Kayak Tours
    With no crowds, fewer lines, and a beach all to yourselves, the off season is a great chance to do an activity you’ve been wanting to try.  The off season kayak tours hosted by Kitty Hawk Kites is a great way to do a water activity without getting wet.  You can kayak through the Kitty Hawk Maritime Forest, Alligator River, Cape Hatteras National Seashore, or Roanoke Island on these guided tours, and Kitty Hawk Kites is touring every day in November.
  5. 5.OBX Go Far Turkey Trot 5K and One Mile Fun Run
    If you’re looking to burn off some calories before your Thanksgiving feast, sign-up for one of the three races taking place on Thanksgiving morning.  For those staying on the northern beaches, the OBX Go Far Turkey Trot 5K and One Mile Fun Run kicks off at 8:00 am in Southern Shores and runs through the charming town of Duck. The winner will receive a yummy Thanksgiving pie to take home as well. A raffle, silent auction, restaurant giveaways, and breakfast are also in store for participants.
  6. 6.The Outer Banks Running Club Gobbler 5K and Fun Run’s
    This course will take you on a pleasant trail through the Village at Nags Head. Enjoy scenic views of the Roanoke Sound on this course starting at 9:00 am. Whether you plan to compete or cheer, you will help support local organizations and scholarship funds on the OBX. You won’t feel guilty about that second helping of pie either.
  7. 7.Shop Local
    The Foxy Flamingo is holding a Black Friday sale on Friday November 25 at their adorable Nags Head store. This boutique hosts girls and woman’s clothes, jewelry by local artists, accessories and more- and all at 50% OFF!
  8. 8.Arts & Crafts Christmas Fair
    Get a head start on your Christmas shopping this year and find a unique, hand-crafted gift at the Outer Banks Woman’s Club’s Arts & Crafts Christmas Fair. Stop by the Baum Center in Kill Devil Hills on Sat, November 26 from 10 am – 4 pm and browse the works of local artists, crafters, and wood carvers hosted by the Outer Banks Woman’s Club. A bake sale and craft raffle will also take place, so come hungry and ready to shop!
  9. 9.Hangin’ with Santa & Kites with Lights
    Come spread the holiday cheer with Kitty Hawk Kites and the Jockey’s Ridge Crossing staff as they host their annual holiday event. Bring the kids out to take photos with Santa on November 27th and 28th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and enjoy some light refreshments and festive activities. On November 28th at 4:00 pm, Kitty Hawk Kites will perform their impressive light and kite show over Jockey’s Ridge. This family-friendly event is just want you need to gear up for the holidays.
  10. 10.Winterlights Grand Illuminations
    The day after Thanksgiving, make a trip to Manteo for the magical Winterlights Grand Illumination on November 25 from 6 – 9 pm. Take a stroll through the beautifully lit Elizabethan Gardens and enjoy the sights and sounds of local entertainment. Hang out with the family around the cozy fire pits on the main lawn
