Fireworks, parades, cookouts and celebrations with family and friends make the 4th of July summer’s greatest holiday. The Outer Banks is ringing in the USA’s birthday with lots of exciting events and fireworks shows to help you celebrate our nation and show your patriotism. Whether you’re in Corolla or Hatteras Island, there is a memorable 4th of July activity close by. 


OBX FIREWORKS SHOWS


COROLLA
Currituck Heritage Park – 110 Club Road, Corolla
July 4th from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Live music, local vendors, activities for kids, a cornhole tournament and a watermelon eating contest are going down at Currituck Heritage Park this 4th of July. Tour the soundfront facilities before the fantastic fireworks show starting at dusk. Admission and parking are free.

KILL DEVIL HILLS
Avalon Fishing Pier – 2111 N Virginia Dare Trail, Kill Devil Hills
July 4th at Dusk

Watch the fireworks light up the beach at the Town of Kill Devil Hill’s fireworks display, starting at dusk at Avalon Fishing Pier at Milepost 6 on the beach road. Parking is available at the nearby beach accesses.

NAGS HEAD 
Nags Head Fishing Pier – 3335 S Virginia Dare Trail, Nags Head, NC
July 4th at 9:25 pm

The Town of Nags Head, Nags Head Fishing Pier and Outer Banks Visitors Bureau have teamed up to host the annual Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular on the pier. Enjoy the 20 minute show over the Atlantic Ocean. Parking is available at nearby beach accesses. If parking is not available, try watching the fireworks from Jockey’s Ridge.

MANTEO
Roanoke Island Park – Budleigh Street, Manteo
July 4th at Dusk

After a fun-filled day at Manteo’s 4th of July celebration, stay for one of the best fireworks displays on the beach. Parking is available at Roanoke Island Festival Park and in the downtown area.

AVON – HATTERAS ISLAND
Avon Fishing Pier – 41001 NC Hwy 12, Avon
July 4th at Dusk (around 9:15 pm)

Hatteras Island guests, make your way down to Avon Fishing Pier for the one and only fireworks display on Hatteras Island. Parking spaces are available at the nearby beach accesses.


JULY 4TH TOWN CELEBRATIONS


DUCK – 12 ANNUAL 4TH OF JULY PARADE AND COMMUNITY CELEBRATION
Downtown Duck – Beginning on Scarborough Lane | Ending at Christopher Dr
July 4th at 9 am

Come out to see the festive floats and costumes at Duck’s annual 4th of July Parade. A favorite summertime event, this 1 mile parade starts at the crest of the hill on Scarborough Lane and continues down the street to Christopher Drive. After the parade, join everyone at the Town Park for live music by the Dixieland Band, watermelon and the parade award ceremony. Make sure to arrive early for a good spot. Park is available at the Town of Duck.

TOWN OF MANTEO JULY FOURTH CELEBRATION
Roanoke Island Festival Park – 1 Festival Park, Manteo
July 4th from – 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Lots of family-friendly events are taking place July 4th in Manteo. At 3 pm, The National Anthem Lost Colony Choir: Echos of Heritage will perform, followed by the Wacky Hat, Decorated Bike and Apple Pie Contests beginning at 4 pm. Stick around for live music from Martin Terry, Old Enough to Know Better and the 440th Army Band playing from 4 pm at the Outdoor Pavilion until the fireworks show starts at dusk.


4TH OF JULY CHARITY RACES


2016 KILLER DUNES 2-MILER & FUN RUN
Jockey’s Ridge State Park – 300 W Carolista Drive, Nags Head
July 4th at 8:30 am

Get in some exercise before your 4th of July cookout at Jockey’s Ridge. The 2 mile course is a challenging run over the east coast’s largest sand dune. A Quarter Mile Fun Run is also open for all ages. Proceeds will benefit Friends of Jockey’s Ridge. Discounts are offered to active military and veterans. Click here to register.

FREEDOM 5K, VETERANS MILE & LITTLE ONE’S FUN RUN
Kill Devil Hills Town Hall – 102 Town Hall Drive, Kill Devil Hills
July 4th at 7:30 am

Honor our veterans and test your endurance at the Freedom 5K, benefiting the Elizabeth City Hero Operations. The race begins and ends at Town Hall in Kill Devil Hills. Light refreshments and awards will take place after the race. For more information or to register, click here.
