Outer Banks Bridge to Hatteras Island Shuts Down Immediately 12-3-2013

The Herbert C. Bonner Bridge, which connects the Outer Banks and Hatteras Island on N.C. 12, closed down today due to immediate safety concerns.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s recent scanning of the bridge identified significant erosion to the support structure of the bridge.Until it is safe to reopen, The NCDOT Ferry Division will provide emergency support to move people and cars across the Pamlico Sound.
