The Ocracoke light is the second oldest operating lighthouse in the nation, and is also the shortest lighthouse at only 75 feet tall. Located on Ocracoke Island, the Ocracoke Lighthouse has navigated vessels around the treacherous shoals and into Silver Lake since 1823. Although not open to climbing, the site is open daily. The Ocracoke Lighthouse is operated by the U.S. Coast Guard.
