Hurricanes and the Outer Banks

Frequently Asked Hurricane Questions:

  • Will I be able to get a refund or waiver on the cancellation penalty? All refunds of rent will be dependent on if the guest purchased trip cancellation insurance. Claim forms will be available from Red Sky and the guest will file their request for refund with the insurance company directly. The number to Red Sky is 866-890-6499
  • Can my money be applied to a new reservation without canceling? No. If the guest did not purchase trip interruption insurance there is no option to apply rent to another reservation.
  • I still want to come in, how can I get my key if you office is closed? If a state of emergency is still in place the bridge to the Outer Banks will be blocked and access to your property will not be permitted. There is no option to check into the property if the office is not open.
  • What will happen if the property I had booked is not habitable? We will contact you and advise you if the property is uninhabitable. There would be a refund or a relocation to another property provided if the house is that severely damaged. Please be patient. Once the evacuation is lifted we will be assessing storm damage and notifying you as soon as possible.
  • Will anyone be available to assist us if we stay? If a mandatory evacuation is called for it is unlawful for anyone to be in our rental properties. Our offices will stay open unless there is a mandatory evacuation for ALL residents. The offices will not be re-opened until the evacuation and state of emergency is lifted.
  • I need to find out the status of my friends/relatives who were staying with you? All of our properties will be vacated if an evacuation is called for. It would be unlawful for anyone to stay and we would take steps to secure the properties so they could not stay. We do not request information from guests about where they will be vacating to. It is our belief that most guests will return to their homes.

If travel insurance was purchased and there is a MANADATORY evacuation, then the guest can file a claim with Red Sky. If guest did not purchase travel insurance, they are not entitled to a refund. Red Sky can be reached at 866-890-6499.
