Worlds collide for fans of the Outer Banks and the horror drama TV series, American Horror Story. Photos released from the set earlier this week allude to the upcoming season being based on The Lost Colony, America’s first and longest unsolved mystery. The photos from the set in California show a small colonial village and the word “CROATOAN” carved into a tree, the only evidence that over 100 colonists left behind.

Season 6’s theme of American Horror Story has yet to be revealed, but the scenery of the set photos captured by TMZ suggests that The Lost Colony will be featured in some form this season. Watch the story unfold for yourself during the premier at 10 pm on September 14th on FX.

Nearly 450 years later, mystery and intrigue still surrounds the legend of The Lost Colony. The vanishing of the colony and its settlers has been brought to life every summer on the Outer Banks since 1937 at The Lost Colony theater. The live performances takes place on the same site where the colonists lived and mysteriously vanished on Roanoke Island.
