31997-300x225Pizza shop, Nags Head Italian restaurant and now nighttime hotspot, the New York Pizza Pub is now a “triple threat” on the Outer Banks. The pub is owned by the Gurski family, Weschester, NY natives, who purchased the restaurant and relocated in 2001. Located at Outer Banks milepost 10, across from the busy shopping center that includes TJ Max, Staples, Pet Smart and the Outer Banks Bowling Center, the restaurant offers something for everyone.

When you enter the restaurant, you are usually greeted by one of three owners, Joe or Laura Gurski or their oldest son Mitch. The aroma of delicious pizza fills air and you can get a glimpse of the pizza makers busily rolling out dough, tossing it in the air and placing it into the brick oven with a large paddle called a “pizza peel”. The dining room, which has been completely remodeled this year, displays décor of a traditional Italian restaurant with NYC memorabilia. With enough seating for a large group, or intimate booths near the bar, the pub is a two story building with the second level overlooking the dining room.

The restaurant features two menus; a pizza menu and traditional menu offering Italian and American cuisine. All is available for eat-in or carry-out. On the pizza menu, you can build your own or choose from one of their interesting and delicious specialty pizzas like The Bianca, a white pizza, or The Mulberry, featuring bacon and more! The restaurant menu offers something for everyone with a “Burbon Steak”, chicken picatta, lasagna, salads, Panini’s and more. A children’s menu is also available.

NYPP Nightlife
New for 2014, the Gurski family decided to bring back nightlife to the location. Back in the 80’s and early 90’s, the restaurant was the location of several popular entertainment venues, including a nightclub and comedy club. The original stage still exists and was transformed into dining room space by the previous NYPP owners. During the remodel, new concrete was poured, the bar area was expanded to feature several large TV’s, LED lights under the bar, and lighting for the stage area. If you ask Mitch Gurski, General Manager and co-owner, about his decision to stay open later and offer nightlife, his response is: “We are just trying to keep up with the tremendous growth seen in the Outer Banks over the past few years by providing another entertainment option for the locals and tourists.”

For the 2014 season, NYPP has offered entertainment at least 3 nights a week. Whether you are looking for a place to order some great New York style pizza for take-out, a restaurant that can accommodate a large group, or maybe just a “night out”, NYPP has everything you need!
