The Outer Banks is home to some of the best beaches in the country. Along with beautiful beaches comes amazing fishing. With access to both the sound (brackish water on the west side of the Outer Banks) and the ocean, there’s plenty of fishing options for the biggest fishing fanatic to enjoy! Check out our 7-day fishing guide for and get ready to bait your hook for an out of this world adventure.

DAY 1 | OFFSHORE FISHING

Spend a day at sea and book a charter fishing trip! Fishing charters on the Outer Banks are one of the most popular ways to experience a taste of sport fishing. Skirt Chaser Sport Fishing Charters offer a full day of offshore fishing. The Skirt Chaser leaves at 5:30 AM from Oregon Inlet and returns the same day at 5:00 PM. You and 5 others can enjoy a full day of catching fish like tuna, marlin, dolphin, and more. Oregon Inlet even offers fish cleaning services so you can take your catch of the day home ready to cook!

DAY 2 | PIER FISHING

Visit one of the many fishing piers that line the Outer Banks. From Kitty Hawk to Avon, there’s a pier close to you to choose from. Outer Banks Fishing Pier in South Nags Head and Nags Head Pier both feature restaurants you can take a break and grab a meal from when you start to get hungry. North Carolina fishing licenses are not required on piers or charter boats since they’re covered by a blanket license. So pack up that tackle box, grab your rods, and get to a pier!

DAY 3 | SOUND FISHING

To find a different variety of fish, you have to go to a different body of water. One of the many awesome things about the Outer Banks is that we are surrounded by two different bodies of water; the ocean and the sound. The sound is made up of brackish water (saltwater and freshwater mixed) so you’ll find different types of marine life in the sound than in the ocean. Charters like Soundside Adventures take you out to the sound by boat so you can catch fish like red drum, mullet, croaker, and more!

DAY 4- CATCH N’ COOK

That fish you caught ain’t gonna to cook itself! Take your hard earned catch of the day to Nags Head Fishing Pier or Basnight’s Lone Cedar Cafe and let one of their talented chefs whip you and your family up an amazing meal. Make sure your fish is cleaned before you get to the restaurant and get ready to enjoy the freshest seafood meal that came from your very own fishing rod!

DAY 5 – NIGHT FISHING

Take advantage of one of the many warm and breezy summer nights we get here on the Outer Banks; go night fishing! From May to August, Jennette’s Pier is open until midnight so you can experience night fishing at its finest. Pier passes are inexpensive at $12 for adults and $6 for children to fish all day. For those who don’t want to fish and just want to watch adults pay $2 and children pay $1 for all day walk on pier access. If you have a membership to the North Carolina Aquarium, walk on fees are waived!

DAY 6 – KAYAK FISHING

Kayak fishing is one of the newest ways to get up close and personal to the fish of the Outer Banks. Kayak charters like Outer Banks Kayak Fishing offer different levels of kayak fishing so all can enjoy. From kayak fishing in the ocean to experiencing kayaking in the sound, the adventures are endless. For this kayaking adventure, you do need a North Carolina fishing license which can be purchased at any tackle shop or here online

DAY 7 – SURF FISHING

Spend the last day of your adventure on the beach surf fishing. You and your group can set up for an epic beach day. For those that don’t particularly care for fishing, there’s so much to do on the beach. As for the avid fisherman (or woman), get ready to catch anything ranging from bluefish to black drum. Just make sure you have the right fishing equipment and a North Carolina fishing license and you’re good to go!
