Bonner Bridge
Current Status: The Bonner Bridge is currently open for all travelers, on-going repairs remain on schedule with completion expected by mid-February.
Replacement: With the last (expected) legal standoff scheduled for this spring construction of the new bridge seems closer than ever. Once the final ruling is issued (assuming a NCDOT victory), construction plans will be scheduled with implementation beginning in the fall. Construction is expected to take three years, it will produce a new 2.8 mile bridge with a 100 year lifespan. A portion of the current bridge will be preserved as a fishing pier, with the remainder demolished and the material used at off-shore reefs. Click here to view a virtual tour of the new bridge.
