With beautiful, open beaches, 4WD access, and quaint, southern coastal charm, The village is ideal for those who want to sleep, beach, relax, and repeat. This Outer Banks town is also known best for the large fishing community that goes all the way back to the 1700s. This OBX town has evolved into a major sports fishing destination along with gaining a reputation for impeccable surf fishing as well. Hatteras Village hosts a Surf Fishing Tournament annually that feature over 90 teams competing to win.
If you’re not interested in fishing, no worries. The village is home to plenty of other activities. Of course you can always hit the beach, but when in Hatteras Village, you can also visit Hatteras Landing; the focus of the town. The soundfront complex features local shops, restaurants, live music, and a marina where you can watch the boats come in at the end of the day. You can also visit the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum where you’ll learn all about Outer Banks shipwrecks, the heroic US Lifesaving Service, and local lore that makes the Outer Banks and the village unique.
When you want to go on a day trip, the Hatteras Ocracoke Ferry is free and will take you to Ocracoke Island where you can discover the most southern part of the Outer Banks.
