If there’s one thing the Outer Banks are known for it’s water sports! After all, the Outer Banks are surrounded by water. With the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds on the other, you’ve got the best of both worlds and your choice of water sports up and down the Outer Banks. With the flat waters of the sound literally a few minutes from the waves of the ocean a true water sports junkie can go surfing, kiteboarding, kayaking and jet skiing all in the same day. Outer Banks water sports are world class!

The Outer Banks is widely agreed to be the best kiteboarding and windsurfing destination on the east coast of the USA. The Wright brothers chose the Outer Banks for a reason…consistent wind. Hatteras Island in particular, with its world-renown Canadian Hole located between the villages of Avon and Buxton, is the hotspot for wind sports. It’s so good, the world’s best kiteboarders flock to Hatteras Island for the Triple S Invitational, every year.

If you’re not into kiteboarding, windsurfing, surfing, kayaking, jet skiing, paddle boarding, sailng or swimming, never fear! The Outer Banks is arguably best known for its fishing. You can fish from over 80 miles of beach, one of the Outer Bank’s famous piers, a soundside dock or boat, or jump on a sportfishing boat out of one of the Outer Banks many marinas.
